What is the main cause of high blood pressure?
Throughout our lives, the blood flowing through our arteries is a good thermometer of our health. If our diet has been lacking fruit and vegetables, one of the long-range outcomes is a build up fatty substance called cholesterol, or plaque, on the walls of the arteries. This condition reduces blood flow. Similar to squeezing a garden hose, it means that there is less water flowing through at a higher pressure, hence the term ‘high blood pressure’.
Several factors come into play as we get older:
- Lack of exercise hinders the whole function of the body, not allowing the muscles, veins and arteries to be as flexible as they should be.
- Being overweight burdens all the organs with extra work. In particular, stress on the heart, liver and kidneys further restricts normal blood flow.
- Stress is often a serious downward spiral. A person with a rushed lifestyle has no time to eat properly, and the malnourished body becomes less and less able to deal with stress. Whatever the state of your diet, stress will be amplifying the condition. Learn to recognize the stress in your life, and learn to let it go with breating and relaxing techniques, whenever it starts to build up. Learn to deal with stress rathen than to avoid it.
- Over a period of time Alcohol and Tobacco have a grave effect on the high blood pressure. In many cases, parents hand down these destructive habits to their offspring, who as adults, will have to work very hard at changing their lifestyles and food regimens. Many educated, intelligent young people are cursing their parents ignorance.
Whatever your age, there is always hope and help for you, if you care to come to grips with what it takes to lead a healthy lifestyle. The alternative could be very bleak. We are exposed to a huge array of artificial foods and destructive chemicals that inevitably lead to serious health problems. Meeting the challenge is an opportunity for great satisfaction, both in terms of taking control of your life, and of experiencing natural, good health.
Take an inventory of your lifestyle. Mix it with a good dose of common sense. Sit down and write seven-day diary of exactly what you drink and eat throughout the day. Study the alkaline and acid forming foods, and see where your are going wrong, and why you experience high blood pressure.
Never eat protein (including eggs, meat, cheese, and seafood) with starchy foods like bread, rice, squash, or grains.
Combine protein with vegatables and vegetables with bread, rice, squash, or grains
